Introduction to the Parish Council

The Parish Council is a statutory local authority that makes decisions on behalf of the people in the parish and has an overall responsibility for the well-being of the community. It is the level of government closest to the community, with Cheshire East Council above it in the hierarchy.

Higher Hurdsfield Parish Council

As well as providing certain local services, its main role is in providing a link between the local community and the other service providers. In particular, Cheshire East Council Planning Department who notify us of all planning applications in the Parish and the Highways Department with whom we continually strive for improvements.

Higher Hurdsfield Parish Council comprises of seven councillors, who all provide their services on a voluntary basis and a  part-time clerk in a salaried role . The Clerk is responsible for the management and smooth running of all the Parish Council’s affairs including the budget and acting as the Responsible Financial Officer.

The Parish Council is financed through the precept, an amount of money calculated as an estimate for the coming financial year and collected as part of your Council Tax. This money is used to improve facilities and services for the local community. Parish councils also apply for other funding such as grants.

Regular meetings are held in the Hub (the new out-building)  at the Holy Trinity Church on Hurdsfield Road.

Members of the public and press are welcome to attend. Notice of meetings and the agenda are posted on the Parish noticeboard and this website.
